Week 16 to 20

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Well, it has been a while. But since I leave tomorrow for some tramping, I’ll try to summarize the last weeks.

  • I had lots of work to do, but I finished all assignments and exams for this semester! Assignments and reports take up a lot of my stud time. The postgrad. exams are ok, the undergrad exam was rather funny: We had two hours, but I was through most of it after 30min. I wasn’t able to answer all questions, but it should be alright. The lecturer was not present, only the watchdogs: Four old ladies, equipped with devices to find cellphones, mp3 player and other technical devices that could be used for cheating. I heard, they were purchased from England! I wonder how much they cost… and there were other funny things (e.g. seating cards).
  • I bought a boule (Pétanque) game. The right thing for the current weather.
  • We had a nice BBQ at a friends house and there was a playstation with… singstar (it was late and I had some alcohol…). Other friends went back with the bus earlier. Some Kiddies smashed a window of the bus with a bottle of beer and hit my friends… The cuts in their faces are not too bad… this might clear up the question I asked earlier…
  • My bruise is healing well^^
  • I am having troubles with the Postbank again. I am missing NZ$800 out of my account and stupid Postbank is not replying to my emails. Today I sent a fax, we’ll see if that helps.
  • I am hosting a guest via the hospitalityclub at the moment. The hospitalityclub is an hospitality exchange network like couchsurfing or BeWelcome (my favorit).
  • Tomorrow I will head to Queenstown and then we will either hike the routeburn track or the greenstone and caples track. The greenstone track has avalanche warnings at the moment and thats not cool
  • In mid November I plan to go to the northern Island. Do some tramping, maybe see a friend I met in India.. we’ll see.

That’s it for now…

Autsch!

Well, some bad things happened… I lost a little skin of my hand today, it is not as bad as it sounds, but it still hurts. I went up this rock (Nasil Slip) and, well, didn’t make it too the top…

and the other bad thing… tomorrow… I am too tired at the moment.

broken glass.

The streets and parking lots are full with broken glass, you see it everywhere. I don’t know why there is so much glass on the roads, people might just throw there bottles away, or it is because they collect them loose for recycling, or they just never clean the roads… It seems as if not many people care…

Kiwis.

I mean the Kiwi fruit and not the feather-viech. One kilo costs about NZ$ 2,30, thats about EUR 1,10. They are a little bigger than in Germany and taste so good. Btw. Apples are cheap too.

party hard.

On Friday the UCSA organized a “tea party”. The party was like the Campus Rocken organized by our AStA back home at the University of Bremen two years ago — just different. Gates opened at 10am and the happening was scheduled until 4pm, entrance fee NZ$ 25. You received free food an non alcoholic drinks, but you had to pay extra for alcohol. You were not allowed to re-enter the party area after you left the party… if I understood it right… I didn’t go, I still had to sit an exam at 9am and finish an report, but I enjoyed some sunshine on the other side of the little stream, the road and the fence which divided the “big” crowd from the more relaxed people.
My fellow COSC students build a beer bong from the 3rd floor down to the street. And later that night there was the next party in Ilam Vilage (people even showed up!).

humiliating other people.

Recent example: This morning there was some kind of bicycle rally on the campus. People in funny costumes cycled there rounds…
The cool people were of course not cycling! They had their fun throwing eggs and flour on the cyclists. Big fun!

Skateboarding.

You see and hear them everywhere, and anytime. Skateboards are for cool people, and New Zealand has many cool people! Not like bikers… I mean you have to wear a helmet, and that is uncool. So people yell at you and they drive crazy if they see bikers…
Keep on boarding.
